So I found out (after talking to ma buddy ) that the 5770 is ~$50 cheaper, and has the exact same specs as the 4890. So I might just end up going with the 5770, and get it for Christmas.

Well it depends, all cards are different after all. But in a general sense the 4890's overclock fairly well. A lot of people have been able to reach 1ghz core clock. In the long run you will be MUCH happier with the 4890's performance, period. And as for overclocking cards, I always used ATItool for overclocking my laptops x600 lol...poor thing needs a little more kick

OP, 4890 over the GTX 260 without question, but I'd also consider getting a 5770 now and adding a 2nd for crossfire later.
5770CF keeps on par with a 5870, and while it still may be less raw power than 4890CF there are numerous benefits to going the 58xx route (TDP, cost, DX11, etc) ![]() Ninja Edit: Haven't personally dealt w 5770, but I can say the 4890 OCs like a bear. My reference Sapphire clocked to 975/1135 (4540) on stock volts.

The 5770 is not $50 cheaper, nor does it have the same specs as a 4890. The only thing it has is DX11 over the 4890.
__________________You need to stop asking this friend for advice, he's very ill informed. I am curious to test how well the 4890 can do with some dx11 work, as it does have the ability to do tessellation, as most ati cards do.

Taken from NewEgg. Not my friend. He only said that the 5770 was ~$50 cheaper, which it is

The difference is $15.... one is 128 bit, the other is 256 bit...

But, overall, the 4890 does have higher memory bandwidth.
