Alright. So I've been looking around for a new graphics card to replace my 9800GT.
My friend tells me to shoot for a GTX 260. But then I went off to NewEgg today. And apparently, ATi 4890s are going for the same price. I'm not a fanboy by any extent. I go with whatever works best. I do lots of gaming, but PhysX isn't important to me, because I don't really play any of the games that utilize it. Here are the two cards I'm looking at: EVGA GTX 260 XFX Radeon HD 4890 So give me a list of pros and cons for each card please. Any SERIOUS issues that one of them has, and which one you would go for (and why).

The XFX 4890's have been notorious underperformers due to xfx taking it upon themselves to modify the pcb and card in general.
If I was contemplating a 4890, I'd go with this one Sapphire Vapor-X. It's actually like $20 cheaper than the xfx with rebate as well. The aftermarket cooler on the vapor x is also pretty awesome from what I hear. on the plus side for the 260...it's got physx? Still a decent card, but If price is even, go for a 4890, it's more on par with a gtx275 than a 260

The advantage of the 4890?
It's a hell of a lot more powerful than a GTX 260. What more can I say?

iv heard a lot of bad things about the xfx 4890's and all other xfx ati cards. i have two xfx 9800 gt's and they have been flawless since the day i got them.

Personally, I wouldn't get either, wait until good directx 11 cards come into your price range - the 9800GT will easily last you until then
![]() As far as pros and cons for each card, the 4890 is faster, but some people find them unreliable and have driver issues, whilst the 260 is slower but will probably last longer and have better drivers.

HD 4890 can beat GTX 285 when overclocked. Anything else?
Oh yeah, why not HD 5770? It's slower than GTX 260 but it's support DX11.

New 4890 Owner!

Let me say this.
I had a GTX 260, and a GTX 280. I was pleased with both. But, now I have a 4870, and I am more pleased with the performance I have now than I was ever pleased with the 260 or the 280. So, I say the 4890 gets my vote. Hands down.

4890 for the best bang for the buck, or wait for the 59xx series.

I can't get a 300 series card, because knowing nVidia, they will be expensive as hell
![]() I do realize that DX11 is like, ZOMG ORGASMS from my monitor, but I don't really feel the need to have that just yet ^_^ And thanks for the heads up on the XFX cards there, spork. I just saw the Vapor X in CPU magazine, and was thinking of looking at it

This GPU: Here is the best option IMO.
The GTX 200s are also very good options for you because you fold@home, but with the new client supposedly coming out. Who knows The 5770 is new tech, so i'd have a hard time not going with it.
