I'm building my cousin a system. We select the GTX 275... check back a week later and no 275 available. Ok then, we'll go GTX 285 for a little bit more... check back a week later and none available.
__________________ what? So now it's GTX 260 or 295, or move toward ATI's new DX11 cards.Since I'm building the system for my cousin, I'm having to keep revising the specs and now I'm looking like an ass. It seems stupid to pay the price premium for a DX11 ati card when there are no Dx11 games out. A gtx 260 might be a good option to hold him over until Nvidia gets it's act together (he really wants an Nvidia card). Any advice on what to do? 'scuse me the phils are on...

I don't see why you would pay the premium for NVIDIA cards.
DX11 is going to be great. If you can find one, go for the 5850 or the 5870 - both outperform the GTX 285 by a lot and the 5850 is at the same price point.

Get a 5850 or 5870, paint it green, and tell him it's a new Nvidia card.

remember when you were talking about moving twards ati's dx11 cards? I was imagining patting you on the back. but if he really wants NV, give him yours, get youself an elcheapo replacement until gt300 or keep yours and get him the cheapo for gt300. Or pass all of this and look on eeeeeBayyyyy

Remember that just because there aren't any DX11 games out right now doesn't mean there won't be. It's simply the natural progession of things. It's not like developers are going to hold off on using the new tech because they woke up with a headache that day.
I would have a conversation with your friend similar to this: 1. Here's what DX11 does better/differently than DX10 2. DX11 compatible cards are next to impossible to find at the moment 3. What do you want to do? 4. Would you purchase my Nvidia card if we both agreed the price is fair or would you rather wait? At that point if he says screw it and buys your card, pick up a GTS250 or something like that and wait for the 5-series to come back into stock. I own two GTX285s and has I sit here typing this I would use an opportunity to move relatively cheaply into the 5-series if I was presented with one.

The reason is because the GT200 is being phased out. Heck on EVGA's site, they have 20 models of GT 200 cards, and only 3 are in stock (since last sunday night), and all 3 are GTX 295.
