But how will the 2GB of RAM really improve the gameplay if the max resolution i'll play at would be 1920x1080?
More VRAM means more texture information can be stored. Games that have ultra settings, or huge texture packs will play much smoother.

Mods that add huge texture packs will see marked improvement over, say, a 512mb card.

However, I believe that even a 1gb card is sufficient. At least for the games I play (FPS, RPG). I've been playing SoC with the complete mod, which supposedly uses over 700mb of texture data is some spots, and I've yet to have big issues with my 512 8800gt in my sig

There was a comparison between same card but different amount of RAM.
At below 1920x1080 the 512 was matching the 1GB and the 2GB versions.
At 1920x1080 and above, the 1GB and 2GB versions were equal.
The 2GB version showed a lead only at 2560x1600.

That's why i was asking if it had any benefit at lower resolution.

Yep.

I think for your purposes, 1gb should be fine.

But do keep in mind that even at the same resolution, different games will ultilize different amounts of VRAM.

Yeah, that was my first choice but i got hesitant after deciding to purchase the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3P board which only supports CrossFireX and not SLI. Although i doubt very much that i'll ever get another graphics card.
So just wanted to see if the 4870 is really worth it for the extra money.

I'll have to search more on the issue, thanks.
After all, i was a complete hardware noob just 4-5 days ago (still, but a little less).
