This is purely speculative. When do you think this will happen? How much? Why?
__________________I think Fermi will not effect the 5870 price, and we will only see a little drop when the 5970 releases. Fermi should be good, but much more expensive giving ATI room to breathe with their pricing. I see a price cut coming in q1 2010.

There are so few in stock right now that a price drop probably won't occur until supplies of the cards become more plentiful.

Look at the Hd4770s which are made at TSMC as well and are 40nm. They were originally reported to be priced at MSRP of $99. With TSMC problems the priced increased. It has been Almost 6 months since HD4770 launched and the prices are still higher MSRP than $99. The only thing that I could see possibly lowering the prices would be competition from NVIDIA and great improvements in 40nm GPU production. Other than that it looks like these cards will maintain high prices for at least 6 months. My best wild guess.

I think that will happen soon as nVidia launch 3xx card. At that time Ati will launch new one and price will drop.
Right now I can't even find to buy one at regular price. They are all out of stock. I am waiting, so soon as newegg.ca or NCIX.com got some I am going to buy one to finish my rig. I will not wait for price drop :l

Prices are only on a roller coaster ATM because of supply and demand; once ATI has enough to flood the market prices will level out and sales will start cropping up to move inventory.
In respects to price drops: it all depends on nVidia's performance/price-points. If we're to base this of of previous track records, ATI might not budge at all for another 4-6 months...
