New to Overclock.net
|
i want to buy a new GPU card but i dont how to look for a good card. if i am to buy 1gig vram w/ 128bit or 512mb w/ 256bit which is faster?

Well, more bits mean faster and more performance and more memory means better resolutions but in this case 128 bit is too low so 256 bit.

It really depends on what resolutions and what type of RAM the video card has. More ram at a wider bus is always better, especially at higher resolutions. I know I feel the limits of 512 megs of RAM with a 128 bus. I play at 1920x1200.

You shouldn't look at the specifications of cards, it's better to look at their benchmarks; how they ACTUALLY perform in games.

Yes. GDDR3<GDDR4<GDDR5. With the faster DDR5 RAM, you can get away with a narrower bus, but wider is better. But if it's a choice between DDR3 with a 256 bus or DDR 5 with a 128 bus, go with the DDR5.

You really do not want DDR2. You want GDDR3/4/5 higher is better but might not be necessary.
