Default How to bake a video card?

Okay my 8800GTX is dead and is not cover by the warranty. I'm getting red lines going across my screen, my only option is to bake my 8800GTX. I've never done this before but I hear that it works great especially with a 8800GTX.

I'm not sure on what to do but after reading around this is what I think so far.

1. Remove Heatsink

2. Remove Thermal compound

3. Preheat oven 285 degrees

4. Place the video card in the oven with the GPU facing down

5. Bake for 10mins

6. Take it out and let it cool off for 1 hour

I'm not 100% sure if these are the steps. There any steps I’m missing?

Thanks
Michael

Good luck on that. Are you planning on getting a new card soon?

Hmm, only question I have now is how do I remove the thermal paste?

Can I just clean it with a qtip or do i need some kind of liquid?

Regular alcohol wipes or rubbing alcohol will do just fine. If you get it in some small creases (between chips or something), just dip a Q-tip in alcohol and wipe it out carefully.

I use 91% white Isopropyl as a solvent and it rocks. Wipes right off. I used to use the garden variety @ 50% until I read the flamability warning of the 91% @ walgreens.
