I am looking for a graphics card that can support full 1080p when gaming and non-gaming. I am looking for options on both sides of the playing field such as an ATI or NVIDIA card. I am welcome to any options given to me. I have a budget of $400. Previously, I had a budget of $300 but having been recently paid this past week has made my budget increase.
What I'm looking for the card is that it can work on my sig rig and can support my native resolution of 1920x1080. For the reason, I am looking for an upgrade is because I have the spare change for it and I need an upgrade from this my 9600gt.

Well for one, when you do upgrade, let me know how much you'd be willing to part that 9600GT for
.Two, if your budget is $400, then get a GTX 285 for sure. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143193

With that budget, you can pick up the best single card on the market, the 5870. DX11, low power draw, quiet fan. For $100 less you could also get the 5850. It can overclock to around (stock) 5870 levels and is also a great card. If you can find them, they are your best bet. You'll love the improvement. There is no reason to go with nVidia unless you need a power folding card.

The cheapest and best cards that can do 1080p are:
ATI HD4350 (UVD2.2) NVIDIA GeForce G210 (VP4) Both are noticable weaker than your 9600GT but provide better video. If you are looking for a more powerful card, then go with HD5xxx series since they all are UVD2.2. NVIDIA won't have any more VP4 (or better) until Fermi.

Your best choice for that res is probably 2 4890s or 2 GTX 275s which will be faster than a 5870. The 2 GTX 275s might take you a little over $400 though. I think 2 GTX 260 216s would kick ass too.
Basically at that resolution you want the fastest setup you can afford because you won't be using a lot of AA at that res.

For that high a budget, a nvidia 285 or an ATI 5850/5870 are a must for a new video card. I would go with the ATI route personally as it scales very well if later on you want to add a second card. The other option is wait a few months until they release Fermi and see the price drops

If you had to buy now and can't wait, get the HD5870. It's literrally pointless to go nvidia right now because they have no DX11 cards, and if you want your card to last, you might want to invest into the new standard (as long as nvidia doesn't crap it up again like DX10).
If you want to wait for nvidia you better start counting down for next year. I run the HD4870 at 1080p with all my games and mine is the 512mb version. This new 5870 is miles better than my card and i'm very happy with the 4870, so if that gives you any kind of factor to base your decision off of, glad i could help.

4890 or 5850 / 5870 would be great. On my HTPC I run a 4850 1GB at 1080p. I do some gaming but mainly racing and 3rd person shooters and the 4850 does a great job
