Question can you explain this for me please ?

hi all...

when I did some post asking for a comparison between the HD 4850, and the GTS 250, most guys preffered the HD4850 over the GTS 250, and they told me that the HD4850 will perform better than the GTs250, but here in a simple comparison between the two cards on GPUReview I found that the GTS250 overcomes the HD4850 in everything except for the GFLOPS, and the power consumption, while I am going to get another PSU in all way before I go with any of the two cards, so can you explain why do they prefer the HD4850 over the GTS250? though the GTS250 was even released after the HD4850, so it's more recent even.

see the GPUReview study on the two cards here:

best regards .

For the price difference (most 4850's hitting around $120ish new with 1GB RAM), I think you'd be better off just grabbing a HD 4870 (with 1GB RAM as well) for about $20 more.

Price shop on Newegg... the prices are so close, I'd say get the 4870.

I got the Sapphire Vapor-X HD 4870 1GB for $139.99 on sale when I bought mine.

High benchmarks does not an always satisfied person make. Just because a card has high benchmarks doesn't mean that someone will still prefer/wont notice the difference between them.

These cards are based on different architectures so they utilise their resources differently.
Those are the theoretical limits and how well they do in real-world scenarios, namely gaming depends much on both the architecture and driver optimisations.

GTS250 is just a fancier name for 9800gtx with a 55nm core which was released earlier than 4850.IMO if you are getting a 1GB GTS250 for the same price as the 4850 512MB go for that, i think you can get a 4870 fairly cheap too and 512MB verson of a 4870 at your res will blow those cards away.

P.S.- If you really want to compare cards between different architectures the best criteria is pixel fillrate, nothing beat looking up reviews though.

unfortunately... the best cards so far availabel in my country are the GTS250 and the HD4850 (both are 1~2 GB) so I haven't checked out what is new nowadays here in my country, so as you see... I am almost limited to those cards unless I order it by a friend who may go abroad for something.

at a 17inch resolution they will play any game quite nicley, if you just have the option between these two go for the one less pricier,no difference.I would even suggest dropping down to 512MB version if that's much cheaper.

nVidia cards always seem to benchmark better but the 4850 is still a better card than the GTS 250.

Just buy whichever is cheaper for you

Both cards will handle anything you throw at it on a 17" monitor (assuming 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolution)

well... what makes the HD 4850 better than the GTS 250 if the GPUriview shows that the GTS 250 is better with almost every thing ?
