OK I am planning on upgrading my video card and was hopeing that I could get some advice. Here is my current system:
Intel Quad-Core Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz 8800GTS(640MB) 4GB RAM 650watt PSU Windows 7(64bit) Samsung 22" inch monitor(usually play games at max resolution 1680x1050) I'm currently looking at the Radeon HD 5870 people say it's about 4x the performance of the 8800GTS. Thanks |

What is your budget? The 5870 is a great card if you can find one.

5870 is indeed a great card, but for 1680x1050 a 5850, or 5770 would be more than fine (if dead set on a 5xxx ATI flavor).
OP what mobo / chipset do you have?

Thanks for the quick reply I don't wanna spend over 400$ for a GPU. I plan on overclocking my CPU when to just 3000Mhz when my H50 cooler comes in. A friend was telling me that my monitor / resolution is too low for an 5870 and they recommended a 5770 I never heard of that before and also the 5770 is not really a big upgrade from 8800GTS to 5770. Hoping you can comment on that
edit: @candy van I have a EVGA nForce 680i SLI (775MB) I hope that's what you were asking |

His CPU is fine if he OC to 3.0GHz. Hell he would be fine at even 2.8GHz.
The 5870 will be a great upgrade, that is if you can find one.... If not, go for a 4890 or a 5770.

If you don't, then I'd say 5770 / 4890 / 5850 depending on what you want to spend. If you don't really care about DX11 or power consumption, go for the 4890; it's a beast.

The 5870 is starting to get a little excessive in terms of performance at 1680x1050 but then some people enjoy a moderate overkill.

I have a 5770 and Q6600 as well. The Q6600 is doing a great job with my 5770. Theres no bottleneck. good luck on your choice. Hopefully newegg will get them back in stock soon.
