Default SLI vs X1900XTX

My friend's step father told me that he could get me 2 cards in sli instead of a X1900XTX. Would a two 7600GT in SLI match a X1900XTX ?

No. Two 7900GTs would beat it, but otherwise, go with the X1900XTX.

Well first you have to get a new motherboard to use SLi. So if your keeping your current setup just get the X1900XTX.

I'm not retarded, I know that I would have to change my mobo for a SLI-DR, but what I'm asking is that if mid range cards like 7600GTs in SLI could match a X1900XTX.

X1900XTX, and maybe you could consider a Radeon xPress 3200 board so you can Crossfire it later ??

X1900XTX would probably be about twice as fast, not to mention have twice the memory.

I don't know, is it as good as the DFI Ultra-D ? I picked the DFI Ultra-D because its an awesome overclocking board. Would it affect the performance of my X1900XTX to be using a Nforce 4 board ? Would I get better performance from a Radeon Xpress board ?

The Ultra D is indeed a great overclocking board. I get easily 2.7GHz out my Opty 170 with my Asus board, and 2.87 (not prime stable, but 3DMark runs) with some effort. You probably get better overclocks out of the Ultra D.

I mentioned the xPress 3200 boards because it allows for upgrade to Crossfire in the future. Take a look at my Asus or at DFI's offering. They are still good overclocking boards, although the Asus is a little finicky (go slowly, and you'll be rewarded).

He's running on a 17" monitor. SLI and Crossfire would be a waste of money before a monitor upgrade.
