I think you have quite enough power to risk your $300 GTS dude, it is enough for now, risk it some other day, I know there are volt mods for it, but dont mess it up, for the sake of a guy with a x1950PR

No worries man, I havent killed a vidcard yet well that was totally my fault. I checked the voltages with my multimeter and the ram was at 1.84v (stock) and the gpu is at 1.21v (stock). Now the ram is about average for these boards but the gpu seems really low and with the droop these things are known for I am sure it gets even lower prob around 1.8 or so (havnt checked yet). If I can find a little clip thing so I dont have to solder anything on then I will give it a try.

I did the pencil on the memory thing and raised it to 1.99v. Dont want to go any higher right now. This got me from 870 up to 920. So I think the memory on my board just really sucks for the most part. I think the gpu would be the only saving grace if it will oc a little better with a volt mod. My temps right now oced are 60-62c with the stock cooler so I have a little headroom but no tmuch.

Default Just do it!!!

do it man, just do it... i did and the following happened...

ok, i used a HB pencil, not the best but hey, i didn't have a 8B pencil lying around... my mem voltage before i did the mod was 1.855v and after i did the mod, it was a whopping 2.02v... ok, so this wasn't much, but it meant i could push my memory from 960mhz to 1065mhz..

now i'm going to get a vr and solder it on for a permanent fix as well as a vr for the gpu voltage...

the temps only went up by like 2C idle, and bout 5C under load...

I don't think I know enough to do the non-pencil mods and I want to do the GPU mod...

I might do the memory mod with the pencil though... I might be able to hit higher than 2260..

then again i can't hold anything over 950 right now with the latest driver... so I guess I really should consider the pencil mod...

Maybe a dumb question in between.. what do you actually do with a pencil mod? Often in those little guides you see something similar to these lines
'you pencil it here and here and the job is done'

but what's meant by that? you just sort of draw on the spot with a pencil or what?

A pencil mod is when you draw along the edge of teh little rectangle resistor. On the bottom where it meets the video card. H/o, lemme find the site I found it on.

you simply pencil a line between the two points, and then measure over the measure point, and continue to pencil over it until you get the desired voltages
