Default Volt Modding 8800GTS 640

Due to the release of the 8800GT and crysis I feel it's time to take extreme measures to overclock my GTS even farther. Right now my max core clock is 621Mhz and I am shooting for around 700Mhz with the volt mod.

I tried the pencil mod already but I couldn't get the resistance low enough due to the resistance starting out extremely low already (stock was 33 ohms, but could only get it to 31.5 ohms with a pencil). And somehow that change was not enough to bump the core voltage at all.

So tomorrow I'm getting a 1k ohm variable resistor and soldering it on

Here's a little graph I made showing VR setting vs. total parallel resistance (given by the equation y = 1/((1/31.5)+(1/x))

Pics and results tomorrow after school.

lmao, thanks. If anything goes terribly wrong I've got lifetime warranty + cross shipping from evga. At the very worst I'll have to wait a few days.

It works!

Before:
621 Core
1458 Shader
1.28v
11709 3dmark06

After:
648 Core
1512 Shader
1.35v
11974 3dmark06

So I guess my card was a pretty dud overclocker. I went up to 1.44v but that still didn't make it stable at 675mhz core (next incriment up )

Nice work! Soldering and high priced precious components do not mix well, especially in my hands...

Nice... yea, mine's just a dud overclocker. Most people get higher than my volt modded card with no mods.
