If you still get a reading that is 400-500 Ohms, recheck your connections. That confused me, but what is happening is that the resistance from the Vgpu point to ground is originally 15Ohms, and you are simply hooking up the VR to run in parallel. This page may help explain it better: http://www.1728.com/resistrs.htm (try putting values of 15 and 500 and then 15 and 400 or 300) If you are getting the correct readings, its time to see if the mod works.
erm.. im getting 755 Ohms without any mods..? between the ground and the spot where the other end of the VR is supposed to be set

and voltages are set to 1.1V in bios, and i get idle reading of 1.12V and under load 1.15V

hmmhm.. ignore my last post.. figured it all out already..

but.. does the voltage and resistance go "linear" like, if the resistance (i just made up this example) would be 500Ohms, and then voltage would be 1V, so if the resistance would be lowered to 250Ohms (half) would the voltage be doubled to 2V? or does it go "non linearly" like 500Ohm -> 1V,, 250Ohm -> 1.4,, 100Ohm -> 1.9V or something like that way?

i need to know this so i can get a proper VR for my card, as 1kOhm resistor wouldnt be enought

That's very hard to know IMO. You need to have the original circuit blueprint then you can analyze how the specific part of the circuit that you would put in the VR affect on the next circuit part. Just trial and error I guess, with small single increment on the VR. I don't think there is any record yet on your card.

More tips for those considering soldering:

1) Use a Xacto knife (or something like it) to scrape the solder pad/point you are about to solder to. This will give it a few edges for the solder to cling to.

2) Using a 15w iron, never leave the iron pressed down for more than 3 seconds, and when you lift the iron, let it cool for 4. If using a 25w or 30w, no more than 2 seconds, and no less than 5 seconds to let it cool.... Being safe is crucial. You don't want to lift any pads and have to do trace repair.

3) Tin your iron tip, tin your wires, and tin the point you're soldering to. To tin is to apply fresh solder to a metal object so it leaves a thin coat of that solder behind. A frendly reminder: Your video card is NOT Disneyworld. Don't leave miniture Epcot domes on it.

4) Practice on some scrap PCB first. Old video card, old sound card... something.

5) Make sure your soldering iron's tip is clean. If it's not clean, you're going to have a hell of a time getting solder to stick to it. If you have to, take sandpaper to the tip, just enough to get the gunk off. Assuming you have a cone tipped iron, try not to make that tip dull from the sanding.

There's pros and cons to solder and solderless, so know which one is right for you. If you feel your solderless connection methods are pretty solid, they probably are.. If you're uncertain you should probably recheck or consider soldering.... But if you do go solderless, just remember to make the job the absolute best you can.

Thank you Subtleknife!!!

I just threw mine in, up to 800 core, and 1900 shaders off 1.23 volts. Haven't hit any instability yet!

Currently my temps are 35 idle, and 47 load! ^_^ ^_^

I am planning on doing this, but I'm kinda a newbie at the whole working with circuits etc, so I was wonder just how risky this mod is? Like how easy is it to screw things up, and how badly will they get screwed up? I'm still going to do it probably, I just want to make sure that when im following directions I wont slip and short out my whole card.

It's pretty easy.

The place where you have to connect the red wire to the card, is extremely close to other points, not sure if it will fry the card, but I was very worried.

as long as you tape around the contacts, the problability of slipping and shorting something is VERY low

I hear you can flash your BIOS to increase volts.

Why do it like this?
