Hi guys,

I want to voltmod my XFX 8800GT but it has a non-reference design. So I don't know what to do. Does someone know where I can find a guide of some sort on what to do?
I have searched a lot on google but every topic I can find ends up dead with no answer.

Thanks in advance

Yeah I noticed your post ^^ I read all posts in this topic.
Anyway, my card doesn't look like that. It looks like this:

Stupid enough I can't even find that chip on the PCB...

THe volt mod it self does nothing. However, it lets you overclock much farther and then you'll see performance differences.

I did this mod today and everything seemed to be working well. I did everything as per the instructions and all things went like expected. The DMM read .15 ohms like in the guide and I assumed everything was correct. I originally set the vr to 350ohm and when I put the video card back in and checked the volts it read 1.14v. This was as soon as the computer started.

So I started trying to o/c the card and all I could get the core up to was 740 w/o artifacts. I figured I'd adjust the vr some more. I turned the know and when I started the computer back up initial reading was 1.25v. I read things about people getting passed 800 on 1.2v but I still went slow. Turns out that I'm still stuck at 740. I don't know why it keeps get artifacts. Am I supposed to do the bios mod as well as the hard mod? I don't think the card is over heating, I have an accelero on it and temp while running ati tool is around 47°c.

Any ideas?

hmm.. as for a reference, im having it at 1.35V and 870 Core, 2255 Shader and it says undel load below 60ºC (im using the Golden Sample cooler withs extra fans)

and for me.. moving from 1.1V to 1.2V helped just about 100Mhz, but from 1.2V to 1.35V helped almost the double

Hi,

Guys i did the volt mod as well but instead of taping it which looks kind of unfinished to me, i soldered it, not that difficult, ofcourse for the people not wanting to do it i understand. Anyway Microx256 i have the same problem you are having.

I have the BFG 8800GTS 512 OC version (standard voltage 1.17v) I did the mod and set the VR to 500 Ohms booted back up again and that instantly gave me a boost to 1.24v. It seemed strange to me as it is set at 500 that it gives it that much boost.

Before the voltmod i was @ 770 core, 1128 memory and 1910 shader
Now after the voltmod i measured it exactly the voltage is 1.24v, and here is the weird part if i up the core even by 5mhz --> 775 i get artifacts, i actually had to lower my memory back to 1100, now its stable as a rock.

So my confusion is ofcourse what the hell the voltmod made it worse ??? Should ik just crank it up more given from 1.17 to 1.24 that is not soo big a difference. Or did i just make a wrong connection or something?

Just to be safe what is the maximum safe voltage to use, since some sites say 1.5, others say 1.25 is safe and dont go above 1.3 ?? Or do i just have a bad core and/or memory?

Regards

well, i overclocked to 870/2255/950 at 1.3V.. im not sure if my Non-Reference PCB design has anything to do with this..
