Default Embarking on a VMOD Quest/Need Multimeter Help

Sorry.

I'm exposing myself as a fledgling soldering/VMOD geek. But it's shame I'm willing to shoulder dangit ...

I'm about to embark on a 8800GT VMOD soldering adventure and I want to make sure I at least know how to properly measure volts once I do the mod and start adjusting the potentiameter.

So regarding how to use the Multimeter ...

The Intimidating Multimeter Dial!
------------------------------------------------------------------

My first question is what do I set this dial too before actually contacting any of the various measuring points on my 8800GT??? :

...

...

What setting and why?

On to the next of my Noobish requests (how embarassing).

The Sinister Red/Black Contact Leads!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------

So finding the various VCORE measuring points and what not is quite easy.

Like our current president, I learn a lot from looking at the pictures in books

But how and where to use the actual Multimeter contact leads is a mystery to me.

...

...

I'm assuming that, as with jumper cables, RED means signal/hot and BLACK means ground, but how to use these leads to measure the voltages?

Do I just contact the RED lead to the measuring point?

Do I contact both the RED and BLACK to some respective point?

...

Again ... I'm totally new to this sort of VMODDING, so please bear with me.

Otherwise ...

Any and all suggestions/tips/answers to above questions will be much appreciated.

(and pardon my little political quip above ... no offense)

...

Also, any and all other sorts of tips/advice you might give me regarding, specifically, the VMODDING of an 8800GT (I'm using THIS METHOD) ... will be appreciated.

I've never soldered before but this one looks like a fairly nice and easy project to start on ...

He is touching things far apart, so those won't work.

FIY A digital multi meter would make this easier.

Read the guide for a solderless voltmod in the mods section, it is very good.

You will be measuring DC voltage, and Amperage.

I'm wanting to run 1.3+ volts and I don't know of any way other than soldering ...

Haven't done it yet ...

I was going to do the solderless one, but I said screw it and just soldered it down. It was really easy looking back on it.

I got mine up to 800 core (I think 2000 shader, though I just set it to 800, I never tried going higher) just by upping it to 1.25, and my Duorb keeps it at a bit under 55 load, so I am satisfied with equal to greater than 8800GTX performance.

All you have to do for the soldering volt mod, is the softmod, then a very light tap of solder. I left the same electrical tape down just to be safe.
