Default 3870 Question

I remember back in the day when I had my x1950xt, I could use ATi Tool to increase the volts to my card in real time through the software. Is there a way to do that with the 3870s? I'd rather not mess with flashing or volt mods. +rep for helpful answers.

if you pull the bios off the card, and take a look at it using CB ati bios editor, you can determine if you have a little room for more voltage, you can edit the voltage in bios up to 1.327v i have been noticing alot of cards flashed for 1.22v~, some going up to 1.3v for stock clocks. you can change it using the editor and then see what kind of clocks you can get after flashing the new bios onto the card.

i am afraid that is the only way unless you strait vmod it.

Ouch I hope that card is in your loop!!!

Most say 1.45-1.5v on air. My card has a 1.4v ovp and issues with the output for s-video/hdtv so I havent bothered to vmod it since I'll be rmaing it when the 4870's show up.

Thanks guys and +rep but I ended up finding a terrific deal for an 8800 Ultra, 200 USD shipped.

I miss the good ol days when all you had to do was bump up the voltage with a simple mouse scroll

my card in the loop? no...just plain ol` air cooling
Accelero S1 Rev.2 with a 120mm fan on it.
keeps it nicely at 32c idle and stressed around 58c.
so it`s completely safe
