For almost a year now i've been using the Geforce 8800 GTS 512 now, overclocked it and did all the software mods with it as much as i could.
Now, i started to look at some harware mods, and stumbled at this site. I started to try the unsolderless solution and at my work i soldered away as some of the threads here told me how to do this. I've put the one side of a VR on the ground and the other on the designated points beside the square IC, as shown: ![]() And tried the 8800 GTS at home. But while turning the VR, it did not change anything with the GPU voltage. So i looked at my creation and, pulled a bit on one side of the VR thread and pulled off a few SMD components. Soldering some SMD at my work is no problem. Now the question: Can anybody tell me what kind of SMD Components are surronding the place where the thread is placed besides the IC. for example, the 4 black ones in a row besides the 4 red dots (from left to right), are they resistors or capacitors? And the one above the 4 and the one on the right of the 4 blacks. I would be very grateful if someone knows this! |

well they are actualy simple. they are surface mount micro resistors. if you find a good rep at radio shack, or a good knowledgeable person at a tv/radio repair shop they can get them for you. they are normaly very cheap pending on size and value of resistance. i have bought them from 5 cents to 99 cents each. but they do take a low wattage soldering to install as the least amount of heat and they dont work. hope i have helped. oh and the value should be on them although you will need a realy good magnafine glass to see them.

if you pulled them out, most likely the solder pads are gone with them too... and you will never get an SMD soldered back in there now..

well if he is good with solder traceing he might be able to luck out, but yes it is very hard to do in such a micro confined area and if something is wrong it could not only fry the card worse but other components as well.

soldering in small spaces has nothing to do with it.. if the contact pads are gone, you will not have any metal to solder too.. and solder just wont stick to PCB.. LOL
