New to Overclock.net
|
abit of a noob question, but iv been looking in to pencil moding my sapphire 4850, i found a picture on how to do it but all i have is a standard class room pencil, iv tryed using it but it doesn't seem to be getting any extra volts on the vgpu, what kind of pencil do i need, thanks.

graphite/#2, if you have a multimeter, you can use your probes to test whether or not it is conductive.

Yeah, a 2b pencil is what I used.
Not too soft, not too hard.

oh cool so it is a normal pencil then, erm i think iv got the right one do i need to really cover it, or will just a simple line or graphite do ? thanks

Draw a thick line on a piece of paper. Measure the two ends of the line and check for resistance. Should be relatively low for good conductivity.

Try using something like the tip of a screwdriver to scuff up the solder. On my 4850s I had to scrape them before I could get the pencil mod working, I think it had a slight protective coding on it or something. Make sure though that you use a multimeter to measure voltage because a little too much lead can kill your board.

hmm ok cool ill have a look, its jsut reli hard to actually see the metal thing, i cant tell if its got pencil on or not lol, thanks everyone for ur help, ill post back to see how it goes

i recall it being around 1k stock and 950 modified but I am not 100% on that.
