Hello OCN,
This is a moved thread from NVIDIA Graphics cards to Here, after I created a thread in the NVIDIA Graphics card section about my voltmoding adventures and discovered GPU-Z bugs (check the link if you need to know more), the thread hit over 3500 views in just over 48 hours, so in the hopes of pulling together those of you in OCN with more Voltmod'ing experience than I, I am moving the thread here, so I can be able to get every bit of graphics power out of these cards .Below is the main chunk of the previous post to get anyone not familar up to date. Quote from the old thread.... -------------------------------------------------- Ok before I dive into the anticipated post, I want to thank those who actually discuss’ed this thread with respect and not rudeness, even to those who where doubting and what not, I appreciate all input and discussion that doesn’t involve vulgar/offensive/obscene or otherwise rude language, being postive or not. You can downplay what im saying or discussing without reaching for rudeness .Ok here is the scoop , as I said before I was sceptical as to me actually being able to “unlock” the cores on the GPU core, since NVIDIA laser locks the cores (starting with the 7 series). So I wanted to fully test and check to see if I had actually done this or had just stumbled across a bug in GPU-Z.What I orginally did was to pencil mod the EVGA 9400 GT 512 MB 128-Bit card to increase the voltage to the GPU, by about 0.20 V, to see if I could get the Core and Shaders to go higher. After I pencil moded the card, and ran another test of 3Dmark 06, I found that the card was stable at higher clocks and then I opened GPU-Z to verify the clocks, I noticed that the number of shaders had jumped to 64, when the 9400 GT comes with 16. Also in the screen shots you will notice that I threw in another 9400 GT for SLI just to see if I could reproduce the pencil mod on 2 cards and check for the possible “unlock”, just to verify the results. The system that I have been using to do this test is not in my System List on my user profile yet, I will update as soon as I can .The Card itself... ![]() ![]() The Pencil Mod... ![]() The Desktop Screenshot ![]() The guts... ![]() The workbench desk (also in the computer room, accross from the desks in the last pic)... ![]() The computer room... just for your viewing pleasure , in the process of moving alot of stuff, so pardon the mess...![]() So there you have it , it appears as though it was simply a GPU-Z bug , as when I went to download the latest one, GPU-Z now correctly shows the number of shader cores. So in the end all the pencil mod did was to allow for the 16 shader cores and the core itself to run at higher clocks . Though I didnt end up "unlocking" the shader cores, for those of you with this card or with another 9400 GT type card, I did manage to get an extra 50%-70% performance out of it across the board, "3DMark06/WoW/CSS/C&C3" .So call me a troll if you wish , or whatever else makes you happy, I didn’t mean to “troll” or whatever else you want to call it, I got a little excited about my overclock and jumped the gun, by posting my results without screens/ect to back them, and I think I learned that lesson, lol, so again I will head the advice of “DuckieHo” and be sure to have screens/validation in hand before I post, just to be safe , so think what you will of me, I am not a lier and just wanted to share my overclock/mod, so love me or hate me, whichever makes you feel better, lol. Forum moderators you can feel free to delete this thread if you wish, since I apparently “trolled” lol, or rename the thread topic to “Overclocking a 9400 GT with some voltmodding” .Just to add something, I am thinking about trying to up the DDR2 clocks more by trying to increase the voltage to them, although im not sure if its worth it since DDR2 caps around 500 Mhz anyway. And in case anyone is wondering on the time delay between screenshot and post, is beacause I ended up swinging by the house before heading in to work, and wanting to take some screens to post, plus typeing, life, ect. Just to take blame for my mistake and what not , by jumping the gun on this, once I hit 35 Rep to allow me to make a new thread in the “Giveaway’s” Section, I will be giving away one these (un-modded) EVGA 9400 GT’s (512 MB, 128 Bit) to someone And look for future giveaways, ect, as I said before I have "contacts" in NVIDIA and some other computer companies, so I usually end up getting products before they are offically released for testing / reviewing / feedback, and just to respond to one of OCN'ers yes I am "only" 22, and yes I have "contacts" in these companys, I met them at computer conventions and made friends so, I like to share my "swag" and "goodies" when I happen to get a hold of some.Edit: The system that this Overclock is on, is now in my "System List"... "Testbed" ,Thedarklord ![]() End of the old thread... -------------------------------------------------- Link to the old thread in case anyone wants to read the entire history... http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/5874...veal-some.html So im hopeing with the help of "CL3P20" and my fellow OCN'ers lets get this 9400 GT Voltmod'ing party started Also reminder I will be giving away one of these 9400 GT's (not one being modded or overclocked), to someone shortly after I hit the rep needed for it / after pushing these cards to thier limits . Keep up to date with this thread for details about the giveaway (Expect it to be something in the form of a "Tell my why you deserve this card").,Thedarklord

I'll start with the quote I just posted on your other thread;
A GPU-Z bug it must be then. So far the thing I question is how you could get a number such as +40% in voltage gain -- especially on stock coolers.

I think he was a little confused and maybe meant a 40% wattage increase. Either way we are leaving the orginal claims from the other thread behind us and hope to continue to make this a "working" mod. This was the reason I suggested he start a new thread here so we can stay on track with the mod.

50-70%? That's one hell of a performance increase. Congratz, man.
