Okay, hold the phone here.

@PIZZAMAN, thanks for the tip...will definitely come in handy.

Now, I give you and CL3P20 credit for knowing what you are talking about. I went back and remeasured from pin #4 of U503 and got a hit. The reading is 3.35k ohm. From the points in the attached picture. Noob mistake on my part I guess. Does this sound right?

Should I start penciling that Res?

*I guess that's why my first wired-mod failed... Sheesh...I'm such a noob

So are you wanting to pencil instead of solder? Your soldering looks good man. VRs are much easier to adjust then penciling.

@ 3.35Ohms you will want a 100K VR or you can use two 50K VRs and stack them. That would give much better precision then a 100K VR. I just used a 100K VR on a mod that ideally needed a 50K VR and the adjustments are really touchy.

Well, I had wired to the wrong pin.... I had wired to pin #6 because I had my DMM set too low and wasn't getting anything on pin #4. CL3P20 was telling me it was pin #4 but I told him it wasn't showing any resistance--had the DMM set wrong all along, sheesh. So, I wired to pin #6 and wasn't able to boot afterwards....now I see why.

So I can stack 2 50's and get the same result? Like this? Both set to max Res; Center pin to Center pin; Outer pin to Outer pin; wires to mod points.

Yes..that should be fine..just measure the resistance before you solder it inline, to make sure it has doubled with the added VR

*Nice job btw...+rep for hard mod too

Thanks CL3P. This small project has turned out harder than I had expected. I'm learning some useful things on it though. Little things that could be useful at some point.

Close. Middle pin to middle pin, but leave the other two open. If both sets touch then you will have no resistance. All you're doing is bridging them. Then yes, always confirm the VR resistance before soldering it to the board.

Okay, got it now.

Yeah this is fun. Challenging but fun.

Um, I think I confused my self.... Connect the center pins, run a wire to pin#4...how do I connect the ground then?

BINGO! You got it. Also, make sure to trim the same pin off so that both adjusters turn the same way to increase voltage. I trim all mine so that clockwise means more voltage/lower resistance.

That's exactly how I got them set too, I put a red dot so I wouldn't forget either: clockwise = Lowering Res/Raising v.

Okay, may as well get these done before bed.

Thanks.

Okay, I'm penciling while I work out how I'm going to get this stack of VRs and my molex read-out thing attached to my pcb--not in the mood for fighting solder today. I've lowered the stock ohms from 3.35k ohms 1.12v idle to 3.24k ohms 1.15v idle. Managed a full hour of COD4 running the clocks attached.

Previously CL3P20 you had mentioned that I would maybe be able to run 1.7v through the gpu... did I read that correctly?

For now I want to try and get closer to 1.18/1.20v to see how the gpu will take it and how my temps will look. At the 1.15v my high was 45c.

Edit: 1.25v idle good..?
