Okay, hold off on that one chip for a bit. Look at this one: U502. The red probe of your DMM goes on the red marked pin #4 the black probe goes on the green one. Get the Resistance from those two. I think U502 is the mem controller. After you get the ohms written down, put the card in your rig & power up. Set your DMM to read DC Voltage. CAREFULLY touch the red probe of the DMM on each of the baby blue points, one at a time, while you keep the black probe grounded to your case's metal-find a spot to stick it/prop it securely and focus on the readings. Take your time and try not to poke more than one point with the red probe at a time. Post back with the ohms and voltage off of those points.

That little sign means ohms.

Ok, while I was reading the other IC I tried the colored pins both ways, is that healthy for the card or is there a specific place I'm supposed to put each pin, i.e. black must always go on ground?

I did some readings and the DC voltage the chip was 0.004 for the green and about 0.798 for the red. Also the resistance was 0.638k ohms (I tried the probes both ways and there was no difference in the reading, or is it just plain bad for the card??X().

#1 Black is always ground; Red is always hot.

#2 Never try to read the ohms with the card in your computer and the power on. To read the ohms remove the card and do it.
__________________________________________________ _________________________

* This is how you read the ohms: Take the card out of your rig. You cannot have any current running through it while you read ohms. Set your DMM to read ohms. If it has it, set it to read 20k. See the attached picture. (From your readings 0.638k = 638 ohms. Keep this written down.)

* Don't read the voltage off of the chip. Only get the resistance in ohms from the two pins. To read the voltage put the card back into your computer. Turn on the computer. Set your DMM to read 20 volts or less if it has the option. (See attached picture) Hold the black probe of your DMM against your case somewhere to act as a ground point. Only using the red probe of the DMM touch the baby blue points in the attached picture--look at the front of your card, where those little cans are? See them? You want to read the solder points (on the back of the card) of the ones near the mem controller chip. You should get a reading of about 1.78 to 2.0 volts at one or all of those points. You have to find a measure point to get the stock voltage and to measure it after you do the mod.

Don't worry, it takes time to get the hang of it. It gets easier--trust me.

Just remember:
* Read ohms out of the case with no power to card.
* Read voltage from the points shown to you, not off of the chip.

You just need the voltage now. Then you can grab the Variable Resistors.

Looking good guys

When this is confrimed I'll add the XFX info to my 9600GT modding guide.

Just one thing. Will you remove one of the memory chip's heatsinks and check and see if your card is running Hynix or Samsung? If they are Samsung you are good to go. If they are Hynix I do not suggest volting them. I've killed three 9600GTs trying to voltmod the Hynix memory. 2.2v kills them pretty quickly.

I knew you had to take it out of the computer while reading ohms but that was about it (geez I'm noob). Ok, I'll re'do the voltage readings, properly this time.
I heard that gpu voltage varies from when you're in 3D mode, is that the same with memory.

I'm pretty sure the memory is Hynix but I could be wrong. Would the sinks still stick even if I took them off once???

According to the readings the pins that you marked showed nothing but this is what I got from the other pins (I think the top one must be in relation to the GPU).

vGPU will have a vdroop under load like a CPU (~-.04). It will also boot at lower voltage until the drivers load (~.90v). I've circled in green where you need to monitor for vGPU.(nvm, I was wrong) Search some more up and down right there. Should find a few more read points. See if two are higher then the others. ~1.15v range @ idle.

2.1v seems high for vMEM. Your looking for ~1.9v.

Use a hair dryer to heat up one of the pads. Should loosen the sticky and take a look. Only need to check one.

EDIT:
That vGPU point looks tight on the side of the chip. Probably be easier to hit that side of the resistor its connected to.

Also, I believe both green marks are simply ground and could easily be soldered inline from one of the other ground points on the card. just my

Ahhh...RT's are easy-peezy...glad to see you found the mod for GPUv already..[and it is correct]

As for the mem controller..pin4->ground [with the little notch thingy at the top...top view]. Heres the datasheet, yanked it off my lappy...got a little collection now of the 'good ones'

APW7067N_datasheet.pdf.zip
APW7067N_datasheet_2.pdf.zip

*It was bigger than the host limit...so I split the file using '7-zip'..just extract them to the same directory, and use 7-zip to "open inside"..this will reconstruct the pdf. for viewing.

One more thing before starting this mod, should I short circuit OVP? or OCP?
