Default About to undertake my first volt mod! Want help! :D

Hey guys, i'm about to volt mod my evga 8800GT 512.

Just want someone to confirm that i'm soldering the right points before i do it.. I don't wanna blow it

I'll only be doing the vGPU mod first since my local radio shack don't have any 20k ohm VR.

I took some pictures.. are the highlighted points the correct ones to solder?

I'll be using the 1k-ohm cermet potentiometer, i'll adjust the ohm before installation. Is the one on the far right the correct one?

I also want to re-cap it since i "may" LN2 the card one day. Did i buy the right caps? The two on the left in the pic above? One is 1000uf and the other is 470uf but both are radial leads with 35W VDC maximum. CL3P20 told me to use 4v- 6.3v but i can't find them.. are the ones i have adjustable?

If they are indeed the correct ones.. can anyone tell me where to solder them? :[ i can't find a article about them here.

Thanks everyone. I may soon be a member of the volt mod club assuming if i don't kill the card.

That looks like it :8800GT. Have to measured the stock Resistance to the ground point? Make sure and do that before hand. Keep track of Res in ohms and the voltages they provide.

That VR/Trimmer is the right one. Just make sure and mark it, I used a small marker dot, to remember which way will lower the Res/Increase voltage after it's soldered in.

I'm sure CL3P or pizzaman will drop in shortly to help you with the caps, but, it looks like you are ready to go.

Good luck with the mod.

Thanks! Btw how exactly do you measure the resistance on the card itself? Do i just connect the ground on multimeter to ground and the positive (red) to vGPU, then set the multimeter to read ohms?

Thanks + rep btw

yes, set it to 200K, one pointer on ground and the other to gpu mod point.

This post should help a little bit with cap placement.

Thanks! This is the multimeter that i have.

So i set it to 200k under ohm? I was under the impression that i would use 2k since it's a 1k ohm VR. Sorry, just wanted to double check :P

Do i use the same setting when adjusting the ohm on the VR too?

Also thanks for link.

Once the VR is soldered inline you will not be able to measure the Ohms of just the VR since the resistance will change due to the resistance already there. Once you've got everything modded all you need to worry about are volts and temps.

Eagerly await pics of your mod.
