Default Volt mod for the 7900gt

I didn't see this anywhere so I thought I would share.

I was looking for a volt mod for the 7900gt after hitting a wall in my current overclock of the card and found out that it has over volt protection. I also found that a few people managed to trick/disable the OVP here’s the link. (Link). I take no credit for any of this just thought some of you might want to know.

While I’m here here’s the links to the 7900GTX and 7600 volt mods though I have no idea if this same problem exists (or others). (Link)

For a quick summery if you don’t want to read the post there are currently a few different ways to do this (not all of them tested)

Method 1:

Volt mod for the 7900gt-7900gt-vmod.jpg

Remove indicated resistor and replace with a 50KOhm variable resistor. This has been done on a few cards.

Method 2:

Volt mod for the 7900gt-simplified_7900gt_voltmod.jpg

The picture pretty much says it all. I’ve only seen one person currently to try this and they only did it on “B” and “C” but it did work.

Method 3:

Volt mod for the 7900gt-simplified7900gtvoltmod7gi.jpg

This basically assumes that pins 22 and 32 are connected to ground and therefore you can use them instead of going out to a ground. I personally find this method interesting and am looking at the possibility of a way of doing this that’s reversible.

Method 4:

Volt mod for the 7900gt-79mmod2.jpg

The picture pretty much says it all and this was what Shamino put up so I trust it to work.

Have you done this to your card, and if so what are the results.

I used the pencil version to volt mod. I only got a .2V increase on the Vcore and a .25 increase on the MemCore. So, I have 1.4V Core and 2.27V Mem. I was looking for 1.7V and 2.3V, so I am going to have to get a variable resistance resistor.

Yes, how DO you do a quick, simple, reversible pencil mod?
