Default 7900GT 1.55V Vmod using pen

Hey guys,

Does this 1.55V Vmod work that is stated at here: http://www.overclock.net/faqs/88174-...d-dummies.html

I want to confirm with ppl who have done it because I do not want to damage my card. Also i heard about the over voltage protection thingy @ 1.295V. Would this be a problem for me is im vmodding my 7900GT to 1.55V ? Thanks for your help, I greatly appreciate it.

You just have to be sure that you have RAM seatsinks, and always keep the temp down with ample cooling

I would also put a heatsink on the RAM controller as well like this

If you're worried about it, just do the 1.4V or a 1.45V mod and you'll get at least 630-640MHz but you wont be running the risk of running it very hot

Thanks for your reply.. Ill make sure that I cool the RAM controller at the back. Btw, what did u use to stick on the heatsink to the chip? Did u just use the stick stuff at the back of the ram sink?

Actually, im not going to be doing a vmem because i can hit 906 using OCZ ram sinks already without any vmem. The link i posted above, it allows u to have up to 1.55V to your GPU using the CONDUCTIVE PEN method. I know the conductive pen method works with the 1.4V mod. But does it work with the 1,55V mod? Have you or anyone else tried it? Does it work? I really dont wanna gamble with my card. Thanks again for all your help.

Since you're using 2 7900GT's I would just use the 1.4 or 1.45, since once you get to 635MHz (w/ 1.4V) you wont see that much more in gameplay performance, you'll only notice a difference in benchmarks. Also you will not be running the risk of too much heat on the memory as well.

Now if you want a killer benchmarking comp then do the 1.4V, but 1.4V mod will be suitable to get to near GTX speeds.

You really do not need to do it at all since running 7900GT's in SLI is killer anyway

Hey thanks for your reply. Why would my memory get hotter if im not volt modding them? Im only volt modding my GPU.

Secondly, what did u use to stick on the OCZ ram sink to the ram controller?

That's actually "soloz2" setup, and you dont need anything more than the double sided sticky stuff they give you since that's the top of the card. If it were on the bottom then you'd have maybe use something else.

Why should you put it on there. Well, I dont know if it was a heat reason for my GPU but I let my GPU run on the stock cooler at idle and I ran a quick artifact scan but stopped it when it got to 80*C since it wasn't under water, but my GPU got messed up and I determined it was the RAM and those 2 spots thatlook messed up control the RAM on the PCB and they may have gotten too hot and melted. I really do not know, but I RMA'd it but so far they haven't tested it yet (I'm never buying XFX again after slow servicing, it's been there a week and hasnt gone to testing yet...please)

I didn't vmod by RAM either but your Memory speed will benefit off the Core Voltage being higher. I'm just saying to be careful or do not up your Memory core too much over than what you could without the mod

Well, im not volt modding my memory, Period. I can't take that risk. Regardless of what i do, im just gonna put a OCZ ram sink on top of the ram controller. I want to keep it as cool as i can.

hey gator LCA, is the chip on the top of the card the only ram controller? Or is there somewhere else where i need to add a heatsink??? I can see at the pics above that u have a heatsink at teh top of the card. That is the only memory controller right?
