Default More 7900gt vmod results

First off, this data may only pertain to the evga 7900gt co Superclocked. When I first checked my voltage I was already running at 1.3v which, being that Superclocked's run at 550/1580 (over the stock 450/1350 I think?) makes sense that it would be volted a little higher.

The problem I faced was that I was going off of GatorLCA's Faq "7900GT Volt Mod for Dummies" (a very good FAQ I might add, instrumental to anybody who wants to attempt this voltmod) which labels three different trace lines, one for .05v, one for .1v, and one for .2v addition to the stock voltage. This way you could technically volt from 1.2v (stock) to 1.55v (yowza) in .05v increments.

I wanted to do a small vmod to 1.4v because I'm running on air (zalman vf900's) and don't want to fry my cards, but which trace line do I paint? Technically I'm going from 1.3v to 1.4 so I should use the .1v line, right?

I decided to try the .2v trace out first, and I immediately saw my multimeter jump to 1.5v. Nice. The temps got to 76șC (670MHz) before I chicked out and stopped the Find Max Core attempt. ATItool didn't find any artifacts at all; I just didn't have the nuts.

Cool thing about SLI, I could test one card while I painted the trace lines onto the other card. This time I painted a .1v increase (assuming I'd get to 1.4v, my desired voltage) and plugged it in. Beeeeeeeep... beep beep beep. Damn. Time to look up the AMI bios beep codes. Yep, that's a failed Video card. I guess it doesn't like to be told it's a 1.3v card; since it's already a 1.3v card. The mutimeter says 1.4v though.

I removed the .2v trace on the first card, changed to to the .05v trace and booted up. Multimeter says 1.35v and we boot no problem. ATI tool gets me up to 575Mhz before artifacts attack. I could only get to 563 before, so I guess it worked. My benchmarking didn't actually give me that big of a boost in speed, but then again it's like 30șC ambient in this room and I'm only running 2.5Ghz, so it's hard to judge.

While I'm benchmarking my new OC, I paint my other card with .1v + .05v traces. I put in my 2nd card with the .15v boost painted on and measure 1.4v. This time, the computer boots no problem and ATItool gets me up to 645Mhz. The temps at that speed have gone from 58șC Load to 64șC Load (in a 30șC room, mind you). So I paint the same traces on the first card, test it (multimeter reads 1.4v) and it'll bench it more tonight when the ambient temperatures come down a bit.

To get rid of that artifact problem you just need to clock down the RAM speed and core slightly and it should fix it, the gains of 10MHz are minimal.

Nice progress, I'm debating on doing mine again, since it's underwater but if something goes wrong I'll have to take off all the damn RAMsinks

^ Underwater? :***: Hope you didn't do that to a beautycard like that.

@Pockermnky. I don't think that when you're painting it's only POSSIBLE that it will increase the volts. Not that it always will do it.

Yeah, I'm not sure what that sentence meant; but if you use a multi-meter, you're pretty much able to tell what the voltage is after you plug it all in. Pretty easy way to tell if the painting worked.

I'd love to see if any of the other evga 7900gt CO Superclocked owners do this mod and if they get the same results.
