What is the best way to copy my 40 gig seagate to my new 320 Seagate 7200. I have the HDClone program and read the manual. It doesn't seem too difficult(I've never done this before). I also have Norton Ghost but did not really look into it yet. Do I have to change the settings in my bios b4 I start. And do I to make the new one the Master or Slave drive? I am going to keep the old one to put my music on. The way I understood it was that once the drive is copied from all the files are removed from the source drive. Lots of questions..lol but I wud really like to do it myself.

Depends what you want to do.
__________________To make a clone of the old disk to the new so that you can boot of the new one you would need to boot of a boot disk from ghost. Then you can do a local disk copy and the entire disk will be cloned. Another program that is easy and from a Windows XP login is Acronis True image. You can install the program in windows and then select the disk you want to clone and to what disk will be cloned. The machine then restarts copies the disks and then boot into windows. You can then just change the boot priority in the bios to boot from new drive and format the old one. Very simple. EDIT: NOTHING is removed from the source drive. It just copies it. Should the copy go wrong the source drive is not harmed it will still boot. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DONT SELECT THE WRONG DRIVE AS THE SOURCE.

They support all types of drive including external. The program will recognize it. I have done IDEtoSATA and SATAtoSATA.

So when I plug in my SATA in the mobo I use the SATA 1 plug and then turn it on and transfer it from the ide to sata and reboot to using the sata as main? What about the source disk9IDE) do i disconect it from the primary plug on the MOBO after or just leave on primary plug. Or does have to be changed to slave?

Yes, after you do the copy, boot of the serial ata. You do not need to unplug the IDE because it wont boot from it. Once you are in windows and everything is working, you can format your old IDE drive.
