Default IDE HD failure

Hello all, I recently rebuilt my system and ran into a little problem. Well My old system was an IDE only mobo and I had two drives on it. I bought my new mobo and upgraded to SATA. I put all three of my HDs into my new system using my old master drive as my primary/OS drive on an IDE channel with the other HD jumped to slave (same channel) with the intent of just getting my files off the two older drives. Well I got to my bios, set everything up like I wanted it, and then tried to boot to windows (XP w/ SP2) and my system immediatly got a blue screen saying "windows stopped........check hard drive..... for corruption......." , that is all I could read off of it because it would then very quickly reboot to the same screen (about 4 seconds of time) in an endless cycle. I then tried to boot up with the two IDE drives switched around (master/slave) because both had windows on them and had the same results. Both of these HDs worked previously on my old system in the same day. I then removed them and just installed windows on my new SATA drive and haven't messed with them since. I would very much like to get my files off these two drives so any help would be appreciated!

Boot into a linux Live session and see if you can view the drives/check them for corruption. The fact that both say they are corrupted leads me to think that there is another problem. HDD failure is rare - two drives did not kick it at the same time
