You would need GRUB to dual boot of 2 hardrives but windows doesn't like to boot of a slave. So without grub it will boot your master.

Once you install Vista it will ask you which one you want to make primary boot drive.
Download and use VistaBootPro to help you once you install Vista

when 2 OS are installed the system ask you which one would like to boot from, and one of the is your default.

and like I said, you use vistabootpro to set default OS. Which can be on 2nd drive.

That's not true. I had no problems with XP Pro and XP Pro x64 in dual boot, and Vista Ultimate x64 and XP Pro also work fine for me. If you install the oldest OS first, then the newer on on a different drive/partition, Windows will automatically make a boot selection screen. By default the newest OS will be selected but you have a 30 second timeout to choose which OS to boot to. Vista also gives you the option to run a RAM test from this screen.
