I was fumbling around with an old zip drive (IOMEGA) trying to look at some old Quicken and tax return data, and discovered I can't read the disks. I know the drive is working properly because I was able to use a 'new' disk (even though I purchased them years ago) just fine.
__________________I've read thru most of the posts (116 pages) in this sub-forum that appear to be relevant, and my question is 'Will the data recovery software mentioned in numerous threads work on zip drives/disks'? I'm going to assume that the VTOC is either corrupted or missing, but the files are still there.

Yes, data recovery program work with Zip drives. You can use Recovery My Files or Stellar Phoenix Recovery. The problem is that the disk must be readable or recovery program won't work.
__________________Recovery program can only detect files that has not been overwritten on the physical disk. In your case, that particular zip case maybe physically damaged (the only reason I can think of when zip can't be read by the drive) If you haven't done too much to your HDD since that tax return, you might find a copy of that file somewhere in your HDD (with help of data recovery).
