Ahhhh New Deskstar Hard-Drive
i just brought a 500gb deskstar and put it in and fitted it, but it just wont format, any tips?

Well its a new drive to replace my old ones, im running windows vista and i tryed to format it using the installation that they provide and using the format option, could you link me to the utilities?

First... go to motherboard bios and see if the drive has been detected by the motherboard.
__________________Second... go to Vista and type "management" in the star search box. This should bring up a Vista management application. Third... click on disk management under catagory storage in this application and find your new drive. Click on action --> Identify it first then format

Ahhhh my deskstar died after 5 months
 ...Now ill never buy a hitachi hdd, i hate them..i just hope your one doesnt fail on you and you dont lose 500gb of data, that would sux0r.

*Update*
Ok my computer will not format the hard drive, it says formatting for several hours then when it hits 99% it goes back and says format cannot be completed
Ive posted a picture of my computer management, any help? Cheers, Mark

Hmmm... I would google Gparted Live CD download and burn the Iso and load it up. Delete the partition and format from in there. Works really well except for RAID.
