I have a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 250 GB ,16 mb cache . Itt holds my OS and all my files. I backup my data files on another PC in my home (networked)Been using it for awhile and love it. I picked up a used WD raptor - model WD360GD 37 gb 10k rpm -8mb cache.
How should I deploy the raptor? I am running XP and have a new copy of Vista that I have been holding back on. I would like to install Vista on the Raptor and have the dual boot option available and just run two JBOD, one Vista (Raptor) and my main Maxtor running XP. That way, I can play around with Vista and see how the performance is and how I like it, etc. Any tips on how to do this? Any other ideas? I wonder what performance benefits I'll see with the Raptor? I've read about it, but quicker loads and read times measured in nanotweeks means nothing to me as I need to see and feel it... Thanks all. ![]()

I tried dual booting ME (good-****ing-ridance) and XP back in the day to try out the new OS. I had an 80 gig hd that I partitioned with Partition Magic. Can't remember exactly how it went, but I remember it being pretty simple and straightforward.

What about putting both OS on the raptor? Split the raptor up and then use the Maxtor HD to put all your music, file type stuff?

If you install vista on different partitions on the same drive i beleive you have to edit the boot loader of XP from withing vista because boot.ini gets overwritten and its forgets which partition xp is on.

Negative!! Vista will do that for you. i HAVE A 160GB hdd partitioned into 2 partitions. XP was the first one and I added vista on the second one at a later date. Vista automatically modified the boot loader.

its simple to dual boot just install vista second and it will edit everything automatically. However if you install vista then xp is will screw up the boot files and you will have to edit manually which im not sure how works. So if you put them on the same drive different partitions install xp first.
