Any bad scratches to the LABEL side will harm data, the other side is pretty resilient, I did a similar experiment to a load of freebe Audio CD`s I got from somewhere years ago!
The laserdiode also bobs up and down to focus, I discovered that when my Laserdisk player started acting up!

That's what i wanna know; is the data really in the disk, or is the "disk" just a plastic cover? The latter would mean that the data resides on the label...

The data is on the metal film in between the layers of plastic.

The main reason the curved cuts were random is because different data is on different areas on the disc haha. The straight cuts definitely shocked me, I didn't know that you could get away with 8 deep cuts like that.
