Default 1TB Hitachi Deskstar, what do you think?

Well my 500GB isnt enough space, and I don't really want another 500GB as it would fill my sata ports, and i'd have 4 hard drives (Alot of noise and alot of heat, espically with 2 raptors.)

I was thinking about getting the 1TB Hitachi Deskstar, I even added it to my rig, and then I started reading about people calling deskstars "Death Stars".

Now I am worried, I do not want to put 1TB of data on this drive and then have it die on me in a year. I hear hitachi has improved greatly and they split off from IBM and the new 1TB drives are much better than the old deskstars?

Whats your input, anyone have proof that these drives are better than the old ones? I really don't want to have to buy 2 and mirror it. Thats $800.

2x1TB? Wow, just wow.

I've heard nothing but good reviews for the 1TB drives. Thats all I can say.

XP, But I am only getting one (maybe) and with my raptors and that drive I would have 1.27TB total space.

I believe you are the only one that has them on the forum. Are you mirroring them are are you actually using the 2TB? How long have you had them?

My second option is getting something like this.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136145

And using 1TB for data, and 1TB for mirroring. That way I would never lose my data. Its expensive though, but I need the space..

Why does someone need 1TB of space unless they're storing Anime or Porn (or both)
