new puter on netwrk how to keep old hdd data

I built an amd 2800+ on a7n8x deluxe 1g corsiar xms maxtor 40g hdd. I want to put it on my network at the office but I have to keep the old data on the wd 8g caviar hdd it has many programs that are vital to my company the old puter is a old p.o.s. dell pII 64meg ram very slow and need the speed of the new puter. Please help how can I get this done and keep the very $$$$$ programs that cannot be lost!!! Thanks for any help.

no..no ..no. you just simply remove the "old" HDD with the important info on it,then,according to which IDE cable connection you choose or have free in your new machine("end" connection=master,middle connection=slave),place the "jumper" in the appropriate position on the HDD itself,(should be a diagram on it)then after everything is in the new machine,fire it up making sure you have made good connections on all cables.Then you should be able to browse that HDD as if it was in the new PC all along..

I did put the old drive in the new puter and set the old hdd as slave and I could see the programs but could not access them then tryed to set the jumper to cs and same result could not access data but it is on the network though

yep if you got XP on yr new rig you will be able to transfer from yr old one that has 2000 on it. hit yr help option in Xp and it will give you a step by step procedure for FILE TRANSFER cheers
