I just installed Vista a few days ago and there's been multiple problems, although this one isn't critical to me.
I enabled and disabled SMART status for my harddrives in the BIOS but applications say SMART is disabled. SpeedFan, HDDlife, etc sees nothing at all. I haven't touched my BIOS settings since I've reformatted. Is there something I have to enable in Vista to allow SMART readings?

This thread is worth reading.
__________________What utility are you using to report the SMART status ? SpeedFan seems to be considered reliable. Also, there is the question of Vista 32-bit vs. 64-bit. Which is yours ? And also if it's an nVidia chipset. What is yours ? The best possibility I found is the chipset drivers. Are yours the most recent ? Also, double-check the jumper(s) on the HD's, if this applies.

32 bit. 650i chipset. How do I check my chipset drivers? Jumpers have been removed for SATAII.

Well first run Windows Update & see if microsoft has anything for you.
__________________Second, check device manager and see if there are any flagged devices. There might be a missing driver or something. Does the system have a RAID controller card ? One post said that they do not allow SMART reporting. Also double-triple check your BIOS. There might be a second weirdo BIOS setting, or maybe the first one isn't "sticking".
