Well, I'm sure, my hd is completly pooped.
You can see what happened a few days ago in this tread: http://www.overclock.net/showthread.php?t=25685 After reinstalling XP it worked a couple days and then the thing happened again... So I reinstalled xp one more time and my 60Gb partition where I had my files had no format. Then I installed linux mandrake 10.1 on the 20Gb partition and it worked fine, and I could access the 60Gb partition with my files, but only some folders had files. On a desperate attempt I tried installing win2k, but it took like 3hrs to format 80Gb (no partitions). After that it worked fine(right now I'm on win2k), but I'm sure it'll take no time to crash again. Now I wonder why it worked perfectly under linux (fs ext2/3), and not under windows(fs ntfs)

I know it is only 2 months old, but do me a favor and check the label of the HD for it's addressing method (LBA, etc) and make sure your bios recognizes it correctly (and change from AUTO to LBA or whatever the label says it should be)
My Hitachi (I think thats what it is) wouldn't autodetect correctly, and produced very similar issues to yours.
