Default Best choice of HD for under $250

Hi, I'm looking to order my rig pretty soon, and will order the parts by end of this month. I have almost everything set, except for the HDs.

This is my rig:
q6600, ASUS P5N-T, 2x2 G. Skill, GTS x2 being the main parts.

I was thinking a raptor 150g OEM as my drive which is about 175. As I was browsing again, just to make sure I don't regret my choice, I hear that with newer drives, just a raid0 will perform better and have more space.

Now I hear the downsides of the raids, and the kinds of raids, though I have never done raid before....

How's those HD's? I hear 0+1 raid was good in performance and safety
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701
so 4 of those in raid 0+1 should perform better? I'm not sure if I'm correct but...can somebody direct me in the right way? thanks

I've been using the same two Raptors (36GB and 64 GB) for a few years now and they still work great. The Raptor is a great drive.

There's no reason to do RAID striping; gaming doesn't need that kind of transfer speed.

If I were you I would get three or four (if you can afford) of these.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262

They will give u a lot more storage space than a Raptor, and will also be faster than a single raptor (If you have the 4 drives in a RAID 0 config).

EDIT: The 7200.10 drives are going to run cooler and faster than the drive u pointed out.

WRONG. A raid 0 setup helps load times hugely and drastically reduces the time it takes to reboot.

I'd go with two Seagate 250gb. I'm not a big fan of the Western Digital's 9at least they're caviars), plus I think the seagate's are cheaper. I think two 250gb seagates will set you back $120 and then you can get another one for safer storage (in the odd chance your raid goes sour).

So I would have two seagate 250 in raid 0, then another for just storage? Because I already have an old 300gb(?) HD that I stole from my brother's gateway I was gonna use that for my storage and buy that raptor 150 for OS, and all the programs...

so my new option now is.....Seagate 250gb in raid 0...

How's raid 0+1 ? That requires 4 HD's but is it worth it over all these?
I also saw these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288

Heard 32mb of cache performs well...

I would get 2 of the 500 GB Seagate Barracudas with 32MB Cache. The Perpendicular Recording Technology they use greatly increases seek times. They have double the Cache of most drives, even Raptors, which is a huge performance boost. Plus, some 750GB 7200 RPM drives have been shown to outrun Raptors in some Apps. If you had 2 500GB Drives in a RAID-0 array, it would have plenty of storage, and would perform extremely fast.

These are what I was thinking: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288

I'd go with two of these badboys in RAID0

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
