If i had WC and an otherwise silent PC, I would defnitly do this. However, my PC sounds like a 747 taking off, and thats with all the fans on low. So I can't hear my drives anyway.....

Um... a way to improve this is to have a before and after video of this. If you can get it.

The movie is doable, but it requires me to dismount everything and to redo the suspensions for the 2 HDDs. Besides my case is very crowded wich may pose problems with the filming, but I'll give it a shot as soon as possible.

Just if you really want to.

But just in case you do, I think the vid should go
20 seconds idle (so we can calibrate our speakers), before mod (a few minutes), idle again for 5 seconds, after with the mod.

A written description of noise is really subjective I think. I would be so interested to do this mod as the only things I can hear from my comp are the HDDs when they seek and the irritating 60mm chipset fan.

I had originally planned to buy the Nexus Drive-A-way thing before I saw this.

I doubt a point and shoot camera is going to pick up the slight difference in sounds anyways.

Theres that problem as well.

I mean, my system's max sound is about 20dba and its 27dba when the hard drive is seeking, so I was just wondering if this would provide that optimum silence I want

Subjectively, on my 2 HDDs there is zero rattling noise, zero seek noise while having a rig that is probably more around 30dBA.
The one and only thing that can't be removed by this system is for example my seagate's hisssss: a constant buzz around 12000 Hz that is created by the bearings in the HDD. However, being a continuous and constant sound, I have a real hard time detecting it after a few minutes of running the rig.
Check out the HDD noise reviews at www.silenpcr.com as they explain the causes of the rattling noise (seek noise) and of the hissss. You can choose to get a HDD that has low hissss, but high seek-noise, as these bands can silence even a Raptor while seeking.

Would this be better than using Scythe anti vibration mounts(3.5 to 5.25)? I think my hard drive is just generally loud, I don't think this has anything to do with the case though..

And I still want quieter . All I want to do is try to make the hard drives (I have 2) seek click sound indistinguishable from the sound the rest of the system makes lol.
