This is a no-go for me in my Antec 1200. It's just impossible.

Won't matter anyhow, my case fans are significantly louder than my drives anyhow.

If the fans are noisier, there's probably no point (though I would try it anyhow). Still, any 5.25" bay should be good enough

Finally added some pics in the first post, courtesy of diligenthunter. Real good work, though you may end up paying more for the elastic strips then the 1$ I mentioned at the begining

The simplest way to tackle this issue (if there is one) is to tie the end of a wire with a screw on the hdd, and the other end with another screw on the ede of the 5.25". Still, why would that be necesary, I'm pretty curious...
For those of us who unfortunately have to seat the harddrive case on shag carpet (fortunately not me), or similar, static is standard. So it's better safe then sorry...

Just a thought. But good thread!

Yep, I had for a few months my rig on the carpet, it gave a nice geeky look to my college room. In that case static was a major issue for me, too as the rig was pretty erratic from time to time. Finally buying a case helped

But it won't hurt to put a layer of non-conductive material in the bottom of the cage. Maybe a layer of rubber from a old innertube- Which BTW you should be able to source FREE from any place that services truck tires /farm equipment.

Two reasons:
Cushion drive if mounting system breaks
Keep drive from shorting out on something if mounting system breaks
