Nothing is wrong with the Samsung drives... I'm getting one very soon for data backup.

Id go for either the 320GB per platter WDs or 334GB per platter Samsungs. So depending on availability and price, I would choose from the following:
__________________WD3200AAKS-00B3A0 (Make sure its the right part number to get Sinlge platter) WD6400AAKS Samsung F1 320GB HD322HJ Samsung F1 1TB HD103UJ Samsung have some more 334GB per platter drives due out at capacities in between those two, but I havent seen them here yet in UK. Guess the key is just to make sure that its not the 250GB platter ones. From reports ive seen raided HD322HJs are performing close to raided raptors (but of course quieter). Think they have slower access times but higher transfer rates.

I would not get samsung, its not even an option IMO
I think final choice depends on the price of the other two brands. oh btw, I'm not sure what the fail rate is on it, but somebody has a new 1tb drive out that outperforms almost everything, even 10k drives. (search the hardware news forum for it..., I think it may have been samsung) (found it here)

do not get the samsung. the failure rate is extremely high, and i know this first hand. i went through 2 rma's through newegg for the 1TB f1 series. Not to mention that there is a problem with the Hutil that Samsung provides.
__________________i ended up getting the 750gig WD becasue for the $300 i spent on 1 1TB drive I was able to get 2x750gig and run them in raid-1.

It really is the luck of the draw. I work in a university computer shop so we get a lot of failed HD's. WD has Seagate edged out, but just barely in reliability, but seagage has WD slaughtered when it come to ease and length of warranty, so I always go Seagate for my drives and keep stuff backed up. After WD and seagate the reliability starts to drop off really quick.
