Default is this true ? (raid question)

is true that RAID-0 with 2 HDD (such has WD 320gb)

-Add 10-15 FPS to games
-Cut down normal process time by half
-Boot time requires half the time it normally would
-Make windows hyper-speedy (starting apps, opening directory with lots of files)
-RAID-0 with four HDD cut down process time and boot time by 3/4.
-RAID-0 with 2 HDD + 1 hdd / RAID-0+1 is a no brainer compared to a single HDD

Other question:
-A sound card add 10-15 FPS

I don't think i'll do RAID-0 with 4 drives, too risky. However RAID 0 with 2 HDD looks fine. But hey, I don't know what to think, there's alot of hype around it and I personally never used RAID.

Thanks, Mate !

It doesn't do anything for your frame rates mate, just loading times.

  • -Add 10-15 FPS to games - No. FPS has nothing to do with HDD performance
  • -Cut down normal process time by half - Process time for what? In most cases no, unless HDD I/O is involved
  • -Boot time requires half the time it normally would - I wouldn't say half, but definitly less time
  • -Make windows hyper-speedy (starting apps, opening directory with lots of files) - RAID0 speeds up Windows for sure, but hyper-speedy? Not sure what you mean with that
  • -RAID-0 with four HDD cut down process time and boot time by 3/4. - again, what's process time, and boot time won't be much faster than with 2-disk RAID
  • -RAID-0 with 2 HDD + 1 hdd / RAID-0+1 is a no brainer compared to a single HDD - yes, since HDD performance will be much better. Most examples you gave don't have much to do with HDD performance.

Other question:
-A sound card add 10-15 FPS - This totally depends on the game, the CPU, and other hardware. With an older CPU, yeah, you could see increase in FPS with a soundcard. This much? likely not. With newer CPUs, there won't be much of an increase though.

doh chozart posted at the same time- thanks for the answers !!

Would you say that its definetely worth it ?

by hyper-speedy i was meaning very fast, and for processing time i meant starting an apps, re-starting an app, boot, virus scan, etc.

Thanks Mhill

So what's better:

Low-Middle Cost:
RAID 0 320/640gb

Middle-high Cost:
RAID 0+1 4x 250 gb/320gb

Middle-high Cost:
RAID 0 250/320/640
1 320/750gb backup

I would RAID reasonably small drives, and have a high capacity drive for storage.
