Question Best partitioning ?

What's better, (even with RAID-0) Let's take a 320gb hdd

1) 70% System/ 30% backup

2) 50% system/50% backup

3) Like 30gb for windows (never touch again except for apps) / 240gb system / 50gb backup

So, is it good to make a partition only for windows ? I guess it gets less fragmented, but on the other hand when windows does not have enough space on the drive it gets slower. So maybe it takes upward of 100 gb for windows to see that there's enough space on the drive

I would personally confine Windows to a separate partition along with all of your apps. It's much easier to backup your system if the partition is small with a program like Norton Ghost, or Acronis. In your case as a 320GB HD, I would go for:

30 GB - OS + Apps --> Ghost that.

If you plan to install more games, and need more space, then bump more into it, but then again, I would probably install games in the other partition, as I wouldn't mind losing them. Could always have a little script that copies your game files somewhere else if you want to keep them.

Remaining all into one partition, and you can backup them to DVDs/External HDs/File server/Online storage.

It'd just seem logical to me to keep your OS, main apps/games and tweaks identical if your OS was to crash, since that's the most time-consuming, the personnal files and datas can be backed up externally without too much problems.

I've read somewhere that the best partition is no partition at all, as the NFTS system optimally runs when there's one big space, not multiple ones.

I read the Duke's guide. How does this change with RAID0? If we wanted to partition for a RAID0 setup, what would be a good suggestion?

I'd be interested to see that source. As I understand, it is just the opposite of that.
