I think my raptors are starting to get old.



It got cut off but bleh.

2 raptors in RAID-1. Silicon Image 3112 onboard SATA RAID chipset. Giga-byte 8KNXP (FJ BIOS) on a 3.02ghz P4 Northwood with 1GB Corsair xms pc3200 low-latency ram.

Unfortunately, I looked at both their firmware dates and one is incredibly old... so that may have cut deep into my speeds.

They seem OK, given that they are in RAID1 so there is an overhead on the controller.. be interesting to see these in RAID-0 but that's a major change for you. I don't think anyone around as Raptors in RAID-0 be good to see. If you can get a firmware update that may help too.

If you look at the other drives you will see how flat the Raptors remain across thier capacity this is a good factor and helps in their performance.

i think you should also include the controller that they are on that makes a big dif too especialy on raid

The controler I used was a NF3 on the DFI UT 250GB. Not the board in my Sig. Sorry.

Here are the Spinpoints in a Mirrored Array Overclocked. The Performance is Dismal in the Mirrored Array. It is obvious the NF3 controler is Strained in the mirroring mode.

Yes that is quite a surpise given the drives perform well as single and in RAID-0 - very nice burst - average read is good also for a 2 drive array.

Your MB has:

- Two Serial ATA ports supported by nForce3 250Gb chip
- Two Serial ATA ports supported by Marvell SATA PHY

How does the Marvell controller perform?
