but alas, my OCN heart takes over and tells me, 1.5TB would be fun whether or not i use 1% of it

I will try and find it tomorrow, but I believe it is for all 64-bit OS they dont have the limitation.

I know that Windows Vista 64-bit and Mac OSX don't have the limitation atleast.

You can pre-order one on buy.com for $200 with free shipping. Don't forget to use this coupon for an addition 8% off making the drive $184. That's $0.12 per GB!!! Too bad I just got a 1TB drive or else I'd jump on this deal.

I think other hdd manufacturers are going to skip the 1.5TB and jump straight to 2TB by the end of the year. WD and Hitachi are coming out with higher density 1TB drives by the end of this year. Sales of 1TB are still relatively low compared to 500GB and 750GB drives.

NTFS is limited to 2TB if and only if you use 512B clusters (it can only address a limited number of clusters). But cluster size can be increased up to 64kB

The real limit is the MBR format used to partition the drives. It can only address a limited number of sectors - and sectors are fixed at 512B, no way around it.

Windows will just have to use the GPT partition table format and everything will be fine. The only problem is that BIOS can't boot from GPT disks We're going to have to make the switch to EFI (like Macs) to do that.
