*UPDATED 09-04-08 * Post #10
I made a post on this a week or so ago, dealing with a new LG Blu-ray burner drive & HD-dvd player. Its a sata drive. Ever since i installed the drive, my windows XP (main os) doesnt load as quick, and when i try to access Vista i get a blue screen every time. I removed the drive and was able to boot into Vista. Windows XP is 32bit Vista is 64bit Ultimate I am now leaning towards trying a clean install on Vista's side. Because if the drive works fine in XP, but crashes in Vista, maybe i have some OS conflicts or drivers i am unable to sort out or locate. Another idea is the 64bit conflicting with the optical drive. I however did get all the priority adjustments fine and straightened out as far as my IDE optical and hard drives. The box it came in says designed for XP and works with Vista. This will be my final post on this, and im hoping for a few more suggestions as to what the problem could be. Picture of the box and actual drive i purchased: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n...0828081235.jpg *Notice - the drive plays blu ray discs and runs cd/dvd discs fine inside windows XP. If i decide to reinstall vista, I will most likely try to install it using that drive, just to prove to myself the drive works fine. Please if anyone has experienced this before, i would really appreciate the suggestions and insight on this matter.

Have you checked for any updated chipset drivers for your board? Also, what message do you get on the BSOD?

Im at the latest p07 bios for my board.
The bsod just says stop error. Doesnt provide anything valuable besides saying its caused by recent hardware. Nothing valuable on that disc besides vista, i transferred it all over to my other drive. Going to reinstall and see what happens.

Double checking drivers in case..
Says latest ones are from March 08 9.64 those are the ones im using. Asking for any later ones on the evga forums and mentioning my problem there also. I'm so at a loss of why this is happening. Works in XP, plays discs. Slows down xp boot up a tad. Until desktop screen. Wont boot into vista at all. Bsods everytime Remove the drive and it boots vista fine.

So i think its both drivers are installed, one from board and one from nvidia, on the sata drivers. This answer was giving me to try:

So when i get home im going to reinstall chipset drivers. Reinstalling chipset drivers.... do i need to do anything special. Uninstalling the current ones first is always the correct way. Hope this helps any other 780i users with sata optical problems.

So i finally am running Vista Ultimate x64 with my new LG blu-ray burner/hd-dvd dvd-rw cd-rw Optical sata drive *breath*
What a nightmare this has been, taking me nearly a week to figure out, research and finally discover the problem. I admit i was lazy for the most part and didnt want to fix it. I am simply writing this update, for those that have been keeping track of whats going on, or if anyone just loves to read and possibly learn some stuff along the way. Let me tell you though.... vista is one Tough sob imho. I actually did not know that there is no longer a boot.ini file in vista, what about that crap eh? Learn something everyday. Well guys from my last post i was explained that i needed to uninstall my boards media drivers, because vista was assiging its own drivers to the optical drive and therefore BSodding every time i went into windows. So this is the crap i went through... I uninstalled chipset drivers, rebooted into safe mode, ran that driver sweeper, then rebooted again and reinstalled the chipset drivers without the media drivers, then when i went to reinstall my graphics drivers, i must not have completely uninstalled the old ones, so i started getting BSOD's again. SO i said... forget it, just going to reinstall vista. SO i did that, and come to find out the old chipset drivers and graphics drivers stayed on my HD with the new install GRRRRR. pooop. So i went into my other OS XP... and went into disc management and just wiped the whole drive... POOF completely. Then reinstalled windows vista again. Loaded chipset drivers without media drivers, loaded graphics drivers, then ran updates, and finally rebooted and plugged in the sata optical drive. ( which was unplugged the whole time ). Now im actualy posting on Vista 64x Ultimate with my sata drive running smoothly and all the software with it installed. I'm so excited and am practically dancing in my room WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Sorry for the silly stuff. Hope this was a good read for you guys... Peace out ~Arakasi
