If you use osomething like parition magic I believe it does this for you (but don't quote me on that).

Ya you can also try disabling pagefile and system restore temporarily to see if it then lets you make the partition then.

how do i disable system restore and pagefile? also could i just run the defrag thats in windows?

I would. Try the defrag first. I would think that should be fine.

I've learned through personal experience that if you don't have the available space (as deemed by Windows) to shrink your partition, you should probably start off fresh. I tried everything to expand the available space, and all I got was a gig or two more to work with.

Try Defrag First. I am not sure if windows defrag will do a sufficient enough job, but you can try it.

If you want to try disabling there later I will post below.

For pagefile: Right click my computer, goto Properties (or put in "Control Panel\System and Maintenance\System" in an explorer window address). On the right side of the window that pops up should be advanced system settings. In there there is an Advanced tab. Under advanced tab click Settings for performance. In there is an advanced tab where you find Virtual memory. Click change and you can disable the page file for that drive.

Disable System Restore: Right click my computer, goto Properties. On the right side of the window that pops up should be advanced system settings. In there should be system restore settings for each drive. **Warning** I believe disabling System Restore destroys any restore points that may already exist. Just something you should be aware of (although I never use System Restore).

You can also remove any unwanted things from the drive anyways. I can usually go through and free up a decent amount of space deleting old files and such.

Well try windows defrag. If that doesn't work and my theory is correct, you will need a better defrag program like perfect disk hehe. Thats only an idea though, although I hope its correct.
