if i stop the defrag now will it have moved some memory?

im getting a new hard drive on Wednesday that is 500gb so im going to make it my windows 7 HDD and when it officially comes out ill just format the other one

i defragged and it didnt do squat...is that program you recommended free?

http://www.diskeeper.com/ is not free, but they have a 30 day trial for it. Give it a go if you want, hope it does the job. This program has a "SMARTPlacement" scan type which I used to get the desired result. I am out of ideas if that doesn't work. Also this scan type may take some time, its a very thorough defrag.

finaly got 24gb of free space and now its saying i cant shrink it SAYS ACCESS DENIED! ***? Im the freaking administrator and theres not a single other user!

Diskeeper didn't do anything at all either. I'm still working on getting Vista to shrink to a new partition with at least 16GB

BTW: I did start to install W7 and it stated that it needed 5.5?GB of space so I'm wondering what the 16GB is really for.

You may need to use a better partitioning program then built in windows one then. Only one I have used is Partition Magic, not sure if they have a trial, or if it may have any issues with vista. Not sure I can recommend anything there.
