Any benefit to installing programs in a separate partition?

The biggest benefit would be that if you did an OS reinstall your programs could simply slot back in (so not worrying about installing them setting them up again). But it doesn't work like this?

Programs would still have to be reinstalled. Most drop files in %systemroot% and the registry.

I would partition to have OS/applications on C: drive and Data/Storage on D:. As elf said you would lose the install anyway. Also if OS and applications are on outer edge of platters would get slight speed boost.

That's crap then! I like that in linux and osx you can just copy the files into your program directory - easy to back-up your stuff that way.
