The Defragger built into the operating system is good enough, other defraggers just include graphs and maybe some more options.

Will have to see how things go,but am thinking it is a good housekeeping tool.
Thanks Two Cables
I hate to admit it, but the credit goes to Asus Mobile because he introduced it to me.

Not only that, but other defraggers do a better job and are much faster. Smart Defrag is a great example.

It is my guess that, because many people have hundreds of gigabytes worth of data on their HDD's, the Deep Optimize would indeed take quite a long time. So because of this, I think I see why they have the Fast Optimize feature. However, the Deep Optimize one only takes a couple of minutes for me because it only has to do 12.7 GB on C: and then 28 GB on D:.

So for me, Deep Optimize is the most logical choice every single time. But if I had a few hundred gigabytes of data or more, then I'd probably either go with the Fast Optimize, or the Defrag Only - depending on how fast it is. And because Smart Defrag is optimized for huge HDD's (unlike my tiny HDD's), it's extremely fast, efficient, and effective.

So if I am not limited on time, will a Deep Scan be the best?

Well, we need to find out if in fact it is true that a deep scan somehow caused premature wear on the drive. Cause according to JKDefrag's website, it does.

http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/index.html

Crap it's on that website somewhere... anyway they say that a "deep" defragment should only be done a few times in a HDD's life because it causes wear. Then again they also say you can use JKDefrag to defrag your USB flash drives, which i know is a bad idea. A USB flash drive is technically a solid state drive and it is not good to defrag a solid state drive as you only get so many erases per block before the block dies forever. Better just to format it.

Probably. But I suppose that once it's optimized, the Defrag Only is probably all one really needs to do; and then the Deep Optimize could be run like once every couple of weeks to once a month.

I think I read somewhere on IOBit's website that the Deep Optimize in Smart Defrag is much safer. But I'm so sleepy that I should probably look for it when I'm fully rested.

Haha! I remember when I used to defrag floppy disks under DOS... I watched it for hours and I was so proud my floppies were defragmented!

Regarding defrag apps, I like VOPT a lot. It cleans up the disk and terminates all active applications before the defrag, so there is a minimum of locked files. It's simple and easy to use, and does the job much better than the Windows built-in defragmenter.

Eh?

I've heard that Vista's built in Defrag software is the best. It might take longer but you won't get the same performance without spending money.
